Port Townsend, Washington, is home. From here I write for a wide variety of magazines and corporate clients. On the journalism side, I’m the Seattle-area correspondent for The Economist, and also contribute to Outside, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Seattle Magazine, Air & Space, American Archaeology, and other publications. I cover a range of topics – outdoor gear, environmental issues, art and architecture, politics, technology, and more. My most recent book was “A Season of Fire,” and I’m scuffling around trying to get another book launched. I also write for Microsoft and other tech clients – white papers, business articles, case studies and more. In my spare time I work with my wife, Jane, on our house, which was built in 1907. I also ride mountain bikes around the hills that surround Port Townsend, and hike in Olympic National Park. And I like to walk on nearby beaches with  Molly and Maddy, our two beagles.
